A strong indication that delivery of the Cybertruck is a reality and likely to happen later this year is that the first eager customers who Pre-ordered their Cybertrucks are now receiving e-mails requesting they complete their order options. This means the first customer deliveries could be planned to be produced by late Summer/Early Fall for those lucky early adopters who first got on the pre-order list.

One thing for sure is that Tesla will have a Cybertruck launch event celebrating the first customer delivery to roll off the Giga Texas line. Super exciting for Tesla enthusiasts and the 1.9 million people to date on the Cybertruck waitlist. That said, the reality is, it will take about four years to clear the list based on current production forecasts. Ten things making the Tesla Cybertruck Unique

1. Futuristic Design and more

Love it or hate it, the Cybertruck has a unique look with a geometric, triangular shape on cool large wheels, ultra-slim LEDs in front, with a dramatic exterior made of stainless-steel aluminum and custom sound-proof, armor-strengthened glass. Not just ultra-hi-tech but futuristic looking, an electric truck that has not really been seen before in a car design, let alone a massive aerodynamic pick-up truck design. The wow-factor is a little out of this world, all indicators point to it performing like it too.

Keeping in sync with Tesla's interior aesthetic, Cybertruck will have a minimalist, contemporary-looking interior with a 17-inch HD touchscreen taking center stage with an all-new customized user interface and larger than normal seats (Details to be confirmed)

As part of Tesla's Revolutionary design, Cybertruck doors do not have door handles and will open as it detects the driver approaching, plus it will have easy-to-remove side mirrors to assist with customization. The side mirrors have a triangular shape to match the truck design.

It will be exciting to see the first Cybertrucks on the road and to see what personalization, and how creative owners will customize their Electric Vehicle. Tesla indicated the pick-up would have a stunning package of features and options manufactured by third parties such as tsportline.


2. Yoke Steering wheel and AWD

The Cybertruck prototype, which showed up at Giga Texas during the Annual Shareholders Meeting, had an updated yoke steering wheel with a connecting top that a driver could grab onto if needed. A round steering wheel is rumored to be an available option. Tesla recently filed a steer-by-wire system patent, which pairs well with a yoke steering wheel, makes it more practical, and most likely will end up in Cybertruck eventually, but probably not on the first go round.

Cybertruck has all-wheel steering allowing it to make very tight turns and maneuver with high agility for its size. Referred to as crab mode, a Cybertruck can in-affect turn/move like a tank with the ability of its rear-wheel steering. This feature, combined with Cybertrucks air-suspension ability, will make it interesting to see how it performs off-roading on and off the trail. From watching the winter testing clips of the Cybertruck in New Zealand’s South Island in the snow, it demonstrated impressive handling performance thanks to its rear-steering capability and active suspension.

3. Super-Fast Acceleration 

All-electric design with a powerful drivetrain and low center of gravity provides extraordinary traction control and torque. As with other Tesla designs, it will have Incredible torque and fast acceleration – with the tri-motor variant supporting independent, ultra-fast response torque control for each wheel. The Cybertruck three-motor model will go from 0-60 mph in as little as 2.9 seconds and to a top speed of 130 mph. Elon Musk mentioned quad version was an exciting possibility.

4. A Tough Strong Beast

With a towing capability of over 14,000 pounds, the Cybertruck can perform. With up to 3,500 pounds of payload capacity and adjustable air suspension, Cybertruck, excluding the Semi, is the most powerful Tesla consumer model, engineered with 100 cubic feet of exterior, lockable storage referred to as ‘the Vault’ — including a motorized retracting tonneau cover that apparently is strong enough to stand on and a well-placed button towards the back of the truck to open and close it. Overall, the Cybertruck is going to be an exceptional electric pickup.

Next point, The Cybertruck was designed to provide maximum protection for passengers and is extremely strong and crashproof — according to leading industry expert Sandy Munro, “it is going to be bulletproof, using ultra hi-strength steel for rollover and crash protection," he said after examining recent Tesla released images of the electric truck structural design. Together with the Stainless-steel skin, Tesla’s Cybertruck is going to be a very structurally solid and rugged product, he again stated after examining casting images. Overall, the Ultra-Hard rolled Stainless Steel Construction additionally, will help durability, eliminate long-term corrosion and dent damage.


5. Armor Glass

Ultra-strong glass and polymer-layered composite can absorb and redirect impact force for damage tolerance —Says Tesla (hopefully, they have come a long way since unveiling the Tesla Cybertruck back in 2019, and the steel-ball throwing Fail or was it just a PR stunt?)

6. Adaptive Air Suspension

All Cybertrucks have up to 16 inches of ground clearance with a strong and adaptive, adjustable air suspension capability that can be raised or lowered on the fly, already an option in the Model S and Model X. We believe this will be significantly upgraded, using adjustable self-leveling capabilities that will adapt to the terrain encountered, and especially useful when both on-road and off-roading.

7. Massive Usable Storage Volume

The Cybertruck will be about 19 feet long, have a six-foot deep cargo bed, and fit in a 20-foot sized garage. For carrying cargo, it will have 100 cubic feet of exterior lockable storage, including the under-bed sub-storage, the frunk, and the sail pillars that all sits under the motorized tonneau cover.

9. 48 Volt Electric Architecture

WHY REVOLUTIONARY MOVE TO 48V?

Another major game changer move by Tesla is that the Cybertruck will use a 48-Volt system reducing the current by a factor of four, compared to 12V systems. This voltage level is still considered safe. The increase in voltage is a necessity as power demand for onboard electrical devices steadily increases and at 12V, the wires are becoming too thick, heavy, and costly. The Cybertruck will be able to use thinner and less wire in the electrical wire harness as a result, saving both on weight and cost and providing a more efficient power delivery and handling of higher electrical loads. This is besides the obvious advantage of faster charging times.

ADVANTAGES OF 48V

The switch by Tesla to a 48V low-voltage system in its cars, starting with Cybertruck. According to CEO Elon Musk, this will help significantly reduce the use of copper in building electric vehicles, which he referred as an innovative initiative, long resisted by the automotive industry, allowing additional internal components to function and communicate wirelessly.

48V systems hit the sweet spot – providing more efficient power distribution throughout, optimizing accessories and other electronics on the vehicle. Higher-voltage designs also allow for improved power generation. The system's battery will also operate more efficiently.


10. FSD Option – self driving

For an additional cost, owners can also purchase the Full Self-Driving (FSD) package, which includes additional capabilities such as Navigate on Autopilot, Auto Lane Change, Autopark, and the ability to recognize and respond to traffic lights and stop signs.  

FSD Note: despite the name, FSD does not make these vehicles fully autonomous, is still at an advanced Beta stage, and requires driver supervision with hands on the wheel.


Is the Cybertruck Aerodynamic

It might be, according to a study done by Aleix Lazaro, Prat PhD Candidate, in Aerodynamics at BMW. Apparently the Cybertruck is more Aerodynamic than was initially speculated.

Study Summary:

Seems like having a head-turning design does NOT come at a high price for the aerodynamic performance of the CYBERTRUCK. 👏 The sloped geometry of the windshield and the bed cover make a very good job of keeping the air attached to the car, thus lowering the drag. It is a smart design. 🤓 At the same time, by adjusting couple surface features, in particular the surrounding edgy geometry of the wheel arches, the drag could be lowered even further. This reflects the typical conflict of interests between design and aerodynamic efficiency in the automotive industry.


Final Thoughts

The Cybertruck has the potential to improve Tesla's stock price if well-received. The controversial design may attract more customers to Tesla's website, where they may also browse and purchase other models. A phenomenon known as the 'Halo Effect', was described by Future Fund CEO Gary Black on CNBC. The Cybertruck's presence on the road, coupled with the media frenzy generated by its polarizing and unconventional look, will generate significant free PR and advertising for Tesla. The success of the Cybertruck could prove to be a significant milestone for the stock and the brand expanding its market share footprint.

Long-Range, depends on the Model

Will Tesla begin production with the more affordable Variant?

It's unclear when Tesla will produce a dual-motor, three-motor, or quad-motor Cybertruck version. It is still to be confirmed whether, due to a shortage of 4680 cells, Cybertruck production will begin with the 350-mile version or a performance variant with four or three electric motors and all the bells and whistles. It takes 1,000 CyberCells (new 4860 cells) to power each Tesla electric Cybertruck. Tesla announced the 10 million production mark reached at Gigi-Texas, which is only enough for 10,000 vehicles.

Tesla promised the Cybertruck eventually would have 500+ miles of range, but this will be for the larger battery pack with an energy-saving, dual-motor configuration. Range will vary from 250 to 500 miles per full charge depending on the model. Recent delivery specs on the new CyberTruck CyberCell (new 4680 battery) promise a 10% higher density. This will improve watt-hours per kilogram, and even better, as Tesla refines its battery cell chemistry.

Regardless of battery advancements when on long road trips, the rapidly expanding Tesla Supercharger Network will be an important charging option.
