Should You Buy the Peloton Tread+ with New Safety Guide

RETURN OF THE PELOTON TREAD+

Now it’s Available Again, Should you Buy One?

As reported by maybeyesno earlier in December 2023, Peloton's Elite Treadmill Tread+ is back. Peloton is opening its existing inventory of approximately 10,000 Tread+ premium treadmills updated with the rear safety guide after its recall.

These Tread+ units have been in storage since May 2021, when Peloton voluntarily stopped selling the Treadmill. The Tread+ was hugely popular despite a few issues with the running deck quality. [Read Our Tread+ Review Notes for more detail.]

POINTS FOR CONSIDERATION

Now this tread+ is available again, should you buy one? There are a few points we raise to consider before purchasing this Treadmill.

  1. Understand these treadmills have been in a warehouse for almost three-plus years. Although this may not be an issue, there are other treadmills in the luxury category that you could purchase brand new with a current manufacture date.

  2. Be sure to purchase the extended warranty. As a result of prolonged storage, unknown issues may develop, and you want to ensure you are covered.

  3. The Tread+ is big and heavy (455 lbs. out-of-the-box). Be sure to visit a Peloton store to view it in person. Have an area selected you’re going to place the Tread+ in before the store visit or at least accurately measure out the base footprint and allow for recommended room to leave on all sides.

  4. Be aware that if you want to return it during the 30-day home trial this can be a little bit of a hassle scheduling delivery and assembly, then having to disassemble, remove the massive base, and return the treadmill, if necessary — so better to be sure you are really committed to wanting this machine.

There are some strong PROs to buying a Tread+.

IN THE END Final Thoughts

Overall, the Peloton Tread+ is a high-quality treadmill that has a lot to offer runners of all levels.

Here is a summary of factors to consider when deciding whether or not the Peloton Tread+ is a good match (Right) for you:

There is a required monthly Peloton All-Access subscription for $44 per month that covers the tread and a bike, plus offers thousands of off-the-equipment options such as strength, stretch, meditation yoga, boot camp, and more. From the Peloton App, you can broadcast to a large-screen TV or many other smart devices with android or iOS as an iPhone or iPad, including Apple TVAmazon Fire TV, Google TV, and Roku.

  • The Tread+ cost is a significant investment at $5,995. The popular tread+ has with safety upgrade is now ready to order with an initial $1,000 savings on its $5,995 price tag. You can order today for $4,995 with delivery and setup included in the Tread+ price. Follow this link to order the Tread+ at Peloton.

  • If you are a serious runner who is looking for a treadmill that can help improve your performance, the Tread+ and workout content may be a good option. However, if you are a casual runner looking for a treadmill to help you stay active and moving, there are more affordable and better treadmill options available.

  • The Tread+ is a large and heavy treadmill. Be sure to measure your space to ensure that you have enough room for it. The Tread+ requires 20 inches on the left and right side, 20 inches in front, and 78.7 inches in the rear.

Except that there are limited quantities, and it is uncertain if Peloton will make any more Tread+ units, we recommend seeing how the first units are delivered and how they work for owners.

We would expect Peloton to have done significant testing on the Tread+, but cannot be sure how this updated treadmill will perform over time. Before its recall, the Tread+ was extremely popular. If you are in the market for a luxury/premium treadmill the Tread+ is unquestionably one model to look at, especially if you are familar and like the vibe of Peloton workout sessions and instructors.

With the 30-day home trial, there is perhaps less risk to trying the Tread+, except for the time and inconvenience of scheduling delivery and return. Block out the day.
