NordicTrack Rowers Comparison — RW600 and RW700 Differences

NordicTrack Rowers Comparison — RW600 and RW700 Differences

NordicTrack RW600 vs. RW700

Overview of both Rowers

When it comes to offering outstanding value for money these Nordictrack Rowers deliver an exceptional connected-fitness experience. Nordictrack's RW-Series of indoor rowers are reliable, durable and offer some of the best trainer-led interactive coaching — stroke for stroke —powered by iFit.

Suitable for beginners or experienced rowers, a NordicTrack RW600 or RW700 rowing machine will give you a low impact, full-body rowing workout — that is supportive of most individual's fitness and weight-loss goals.

All NordicTrack rowers come with a free 30 days of iFit family membership with access to rowing sessions on the water, or in a studio class setting, streamed directly to the rower’s touchscreen. You don’t have to join a boutique rowing studio such as CityRow or RowHouse – and you get unlimited rowing and off-the-rower cross-fit workouts whenever you want to train. You also can add 4 additional accounts for others to row and track their real-time stats, settings and workout schedules.

A cool aspect of NordicTrack rowing machines is its tight integration with iFit workouts that allows trainers to dynamically adjust stroke resistance as you row alongside with them – Live Resistance Control, also referred to as AutoAdjust.

As the pace heats up or slows down, you do not have to be concerned about making any adjustments, just continue on and focus on your rowing workout—a nice feature that really shines during the HIIT rowing sessions, like those with iFit Trainer Kevin Scott, in his Fast and Furious rowing series in beautiful French Polynesia.

Expert trainers, like Olympian and World Champion Alex Gregory, also take you through the rowing basics ONE-ON-ONE — you can select from various lengths, challenge levels, destination or studio setting as well as choose a series of challenges. You have 24/7 access to rowing workouts so you can train on your schedule to support your fitness goals with either the Nordictrack RW600, RW700, or a RW900 rowers. (Reviewed separately)

iFit Connected-Fitness App

The iFit Rowing Experience captured in a nutshell with this short video highlights

All NordicTrack rowers come with a 30-day family membership to iFit. It’s the cornerstone and secret sauce that make these rowing machines stand out from the pack. First, the trainer-led content and variety is excellent, both in the studio and on waterways across the globe, streamed directly to your rowers HD touchscreen. You will find many suitable challenges, trainers and destinations to select from.

NordicTrack is committed to growing iFit interactive training. The massive library of workouts offers one of the best ranges of rowing workouts to keep you challenged, with new sessions added. There are also monthly challenge series with rewards for reaching milestones! Technically, iFit is adding new features and app updates on a regular basis, like SmartAdjust and App connectivity to Apple Health and Strava for example.

Expert iFit rowing instructors provide stroke by stroke guidance on rowing technique and form as they control the pace and sync the resistance of your rowing machine — in summary, dynamically make adjustments for a hands-free workout experience. You can choose whether you want to follow this or opt-out, and make your preferred adjustments, then rejoin the class later at any time.

Topping off iFit’s hi-tech integration with your rowing machine is the newly released SmartAdjust feature. For instance, if you’re finding a segment of a workout a little difficult or too easy you can make your own resistance adjustment, and iFit will apply this as a percentage change across the entire session while remembering it for future workouts. As you become stronger and fitter, iFit SmartAdjust will start to take this into account and increase resistance over time — you always have the option to disable SmartAdjust anytime.

iFit Rowing workouts are trainer-led in the studio or on the water at awesome destinations

iFit Rowing Classes are for beginners to advanced, in the studio or on-the-water

You can row on rivers in England and across Africa or choose a studio rowing workout led by elite trainers like Alex Silver Fagen. We particularly enjoyed the progressive-building series workouts that span over days or several weeks, designed to build stamina and endurance. For example, this month Row through the heart of Zambia as you complete all 13 workouts in the Zambia Beginner Series with iFIT Trainer James “Stevo” Stephenson. Currently, there are no Live iFit rowing classes, but according to our sources at Nordictrack, are on the horizon.

iFit also provides access to a wide range of off-the-rower cross-training such as boxing, yoga, meditation, strength training, and stretching among others which you can view on your rower’s touchscreen or on any smart device/wide-screen TV, Apple TV, Google TV, even Roku. Below you can see the design changes for the 2021 folding rower models to the current design for the 2023-2024 models

An iFit Family Membership subscription allows up to 5 user accounts, so multiple people can schedule workouts and track their progress and real-time stats on the dashboard. iFit offers excellent value for money in our opinion for NordicTrack indoor rowers.

10 to 22” Smart FHD touchscreens with Original RW Rowers

One of the most noticeable differences between the original two rowers is the display size. The 2024 model RW600 has a 7-inch touchscreen vs. 10 inches for the current RW700 model, it cannot swivel, but can be tilted up or down. The New redesigned NordicTrack RW700 now comes with a swivel display, better suited for off-the-rower workouts. Both models deliver a Sharp crisp image in Full HD with dual speakers built into the console. The RW600 has resistance quick-touch buttons at the bottom of the console in increments of three, while the original RW700 has all 26 resistant levels controlled via the touchscreen. One of the few differences besides the display size is that the touchscreen console on RW700 rower can rotate or swivel 180° while on the RW600 rower it only adjusts in a tilting motion up and down.

If you prefer an even wider screen, check out the Nordictrack RW900 review with its 22-inch FHD touchscreen that includes all the same options on the RW600 and RW700 models, but you get a much wider display-size.

Dual Resistance

Close-up of Original 2021 NordicTrack Rowers’ like on the RW600. Silent magnetic resistance with additional manual adjustment handle to further increase resistance for a more intense rowing workout

On the Original RW rower models as with the 2021 RW600 and RW900 models featured dual resistance (Silent electromagnetic and an Adjustable Air damper for 10 additional levels). Besides being able to change the resistance digitally, on the touchscreen or by using the quick-touch buttons on the console, you can fine-tune the resistance adjustment manually by moving the air-resistance handle to create even more stroke resistance. While this seems a good idea, in practice we found it a little inconvenient to use when compared to the latest NordicTrack RW700 and RW900 rower models, that now feature just digital resistance.

For all rowers in the NordicTrack series, we found them to be extremely stable and quiet, even with aggressive rowing.

Folding Rowers vs. Standing Upright

The ability to fold the 2021 RW600 and RW700 models is a great option, making them easier to move using the two front wheels. The ability to fold up a rower is also helpful if you need to save some space when your rowing equipment is not in use. Rowing machines tend to be long in length but still are space efficient. You will need overall approximately 7.5 feet lengthwise and 26 inches in width. Use this link for more answers to Frequently Asked Rowing Questions.

The current RW600, RW700 and RW900 NordicTrack Rowing machines do not fold, but rather to save space has been designed to easily be stood upright. At first, surprisingly this new approach turns out to be much quicker and simpler to do than folding the original Nordictrack RW rowing machines, as it can be tricky and a little cumbersome to do so, and in the end, the space savings is roughly the same. Additionally, you still have the two front wheels to assist in maneuvering the latest NordicTrack rower models around.

Both the RW600 & RW700 Rowers are designed to fold to save space, and make them easier to move about. The seat is ergonomically designed and has a smoot quiet action as it glides back and forth

SO IN THE END Final thoughts

We have no doubts over the performance of these indoor rowing machines — they are both great options for anyone looking to add rowing to their fitness workouts.

The RW600 and RW700 are budget-friendly rowers loaded with features, now both with a smart 10-inch Full HD touchscreen. Both rowers are durable, sturdy pieces of exercise equipment that feature worry-free silent electromagnetic resistance. (With the older 2021 models there’s an additional manual Adjustable Air resistance option to further increase the intensity of your rowing workouts. This can make each stroke very hard, so it’s suited more for more those serious strength builders.

The main difference that may affect your decision on which model to choose is a preference the touchscreen, which can be fully rotated on the RW700, for improved viewing for off-the-rower workouts over the RW600 rower that can only be tilted up or down. You can always cast workouts to any smart device including a smart wide-screen TV.

The RW series from Nordictrack offers the power and options to support anyone's fitness goals at a competitive price for the value. Besides offering high quality rowing workouts iFit membership provides access to a brilliant library of personal training at home on and off-the-rower for running, walking, yoga, boxing, strength training, mediation, and much more.
